Popular Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis has died at the age of 54 after suffering a cardiac arrest in Athens, according to initial reports.

The renowned Greek singer was taken to Elpis Hospital on Wednesday afternoon after emergency services were called to a private clinic in Kolonaki.
Doctors at Elpis Hospital continued resuscitation efforts after Mazonakis arrived at the emergency department, but were unable to revive him. His death was subsequently confirmed at the hospital.

According to the initial information, an emergency call was made to Greece’s National Emergency Aid Centre (EKAB) from the private Stem Cell clinic on Karneadou Street in Kolonaki.
The clinic reportedly told EKAB that a person had suffered a cardiac arrest.
An EKAB rescuer travelling by motorcycle arrived at approximately 4:26 p.m. and immediately began CPR. An ambulance arrived a short time later and transported Mazonakis to Elpis Hospital, which was the nearest hospital on duty.
CPR continued in the hospital’s emergency department, but the medical team’s efforts were unsuccessful.
Mazonakis was undergoing scheduled treatment
Initial reports state that the 54 year old singer had visited the Stem Cell clinic at 11 Karneadou Street for a scheduled treatment.
According to the information currently available, Mazonakis suffered the cardiac arrest shortly after an intravenous catheter was inserted.
The circumstances surrounding the singer’s sudden death are expected to be investigated, while further details are awaited.
