Lionel Messi’s father, Jorge Messi, has reportedly died at the age of 68 following a long-term illness, according to Argentine media.
Jorge had remained a central figure in his son’s extraordinary football career, serving as Messi’s agent and playing a major role in guiding him from a young talent in Argentina to one of the greatest footballers in history.
Messi was particularly concerned about his father’s health in the years leading up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Jorge’s support for his son began long before Messi became a global superstar. When Lionel was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency as a child, Jorge reportedly devoted the family’s resources to helping fund his treatment and supporting his son’s dream of becoming a professional footballer.
His influence remained a constant throughout Messi’s career, including during his historic years with Barcelona, Argentina and Inter Miami.
The football world is mourning the loss of a man who played a deeply important role behind the scenes in the life of one of the game’s greatest icons.
Rest in peace, Jorge Messi.
