Six Dutch tourists have been arrested on the Greek island of Kos after allegedly assaulting three Italian visitors and forcing one of them to withdraw money from an ATM.
Six Dutch holidaymakers aged between 21 and 25 have been arrested on the island of Kos following an alleged violent robbery involving three Italian tourists.
The incident reportedly took place at around 4am on Sunday near the marina in Kos Town.
According to reports cited by Dutch and Italian media, the three Italian men, aged 21, were standing near the marina when one of the Dutch tourists allegedly took off on a rental bicycle belonging to the group.
One of the Italians chased the man and managed to stop him. During the confrontation, the Italian reportedly tore the Dutch man’s shirt while attempting to recover the bicycle.
The damaged shirt allegedly triggered a larger confrontation.
The six Dutch tourists are accused of surrounding the three Italians, hitting and kicking them before demanding €150 as compensation for the torn clothing.
The situation then allegedly escalated further, with one of the Italian men being forced to accompany the group to a nearby ATM.
According to the victims, the Dutch tourists allegedly threatened them and forced them to withdraw cash before taking the money.
“They forced us to withdraw money at the ATM and took off with the money,” one of the victims told Italian media.
The three Italians did not suffer serious injuries and reported the incident to Greek police.
CCTV helps identify suspects
Greek police reportedly reviewed security camera footage from the ATM and a nearby hotel as part of their investigation.
The footage allegedly helped officers identify the suspects.
Police raided the Dutch tourists’ hotel room on Monday morning, where they reportedly found the €150 and the rental bicycle.
The money and bicycle were subsequently returned to the Italian visitors, who later travelled back to Italy.
The six Dutch nationals remain in custody while the investigation continues.
They are facing allegations including robbery involving violence and unlawful deprivation of liberty. Greek authorities have opened a criminal case, with local reports describing the incident as a robbery.
The case remains under investigation and the allegations against the six suspects have not been established in court.
