Air ticket prices in Greece rose sharply in June 2026, recording a 15.1% year-on-year increase, according to the latest Eurostat data. The country ranked second among EU member states for the highest increases, behind only Austria (+22.3%).

Across the European Union, airfares continue to show significant volatility driven by travel demand, seasonality and international developments. In June 2026, overall air transport prices in the EU increased by 3.1% compared with the same month in 2025. International flights rose by 4.5%, while domestic routes increased by 2.0%.
Air transport costs have fluctuated strongly since the beginning of 2025. The largest rise was recorded in April 2025 (+13.7% year-on-year). After a temporary decline at the start of 2026, prices rose again in February and March, fell by 4.7% in April, then climbed by 8.1% in May and a further 3.1% in June.
International routes showed greater volatility than domestic ones, with sharp increases of 14.1% in April 2025 and 8.7% in May 2026.
Country-by-Country Differences
From April to June 2026, price changes varied widely across the EU:
- Belgium recorded strong but slowing increases: +41.5% in April, +33.8% in May and +28.7% in June.
- Slovakia saw the steepest declines: –53.0% in April, –48.2% in May and –45.1% in June.
- Most countries experienced a drop in April before prices rose again in May and June.
- In June, Austria posted the highest increase (+22.3%), followed by Greece (+15.1%).
- The largest decreases in June were recorded in Hungary (–13.6%) and Poland (–13.1%).
Greece Follows Tourist Destination Pattern
The strong rise in Greek airfares reflects the broader trend seen in popular summer destinations. High demand during the peak tourist season continues to push prices upward, particularly on international routes.
