Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos called on insurers on Friday to take back the 14% premium increases in lifelong health plans, as they are “unacceptable.”
He also announced that ELSTAT, in collaboration with the Bank of Greece, will create a new healthcare premium index to include lifelong as well as annual contracts. Theodorikakos stressed there will also be legislative intervention to strengthen competition and consumer protection, while insurers’ commissions are also examined.
Also, the issue of healthcare oligopoly is open for the Competition Commission, as its investigation which began in 2021 has not been completed yet.
