Fresh from ending his 16-month title drought at the Swiss Open in Gstaad, Stefanos Tsitsipas has outlined three clear objectives for the remainder of the 2026 ATP season as he continues his climb back up the rankings.
The Greek star, who lifted the ATP 250 trophy in Switzerland on Sunday, has surged 34 places in the ATP rankings to world No. 51 after entering the tournament ranked No. 85.
Despite narrowly missing an immediate return to the top 50, Tsitsipas believes he is heading back in the right direction.
Three goals for the rest of 2026
Speaking to L’Équipe, the two-time Grand Slam finalist said his immediate priority is to re-establish himself among the world’s top players.
“This year, I want to beat at least three top-10 players. That’s one of my goals. Another one is to win an ATP 500 tournament. But probably the first goal will be to get back into the top 50. I really want to get back to that level.”
Tsitsipas has already defeated two top-10 opponents this season, overcoming Taylor Fritz at the United Cup and Alex de Minaur at the Miami Open. One more victory over a top-10 player would see him achieve the first of those targets.
Washington offers a major opportunity
The 27-year-old has accepted a wildcard into next week’s ATP 500 event in Washington, where he has no ranking points to defend after skipping last year’s tournament.
That means every victory will add valuable ranking points as he looks to climb back inside the world’s top 50. A strong run in the American capital could be enough to achieve that goal before the North American hard-court swing gathers momentum.
Confidence returning
Tsitsipas’ title in Gstaad was his first since winning the Dubai Championships in early 2025 and marked an important turning point following a difficult first half of the season, during which he slipped out of the top 50 for the first time in years.
With renewed confidence, a healthier ranking and clear objectives in sight, the former world No. 3 appears determined to revive his career during the second half of the 2026 season.
