In a significant step forward for Greece’s digital transformation, the Greek passport has been officially integrated into the Gov.gr Wallet application, allowing citizens to carry and use their passport digitally on their smartphones.
Key Changes and Benefits
Holders of valid ordinary Greek passports can now add their passport to the Gov.gr Wallet and use it for:
- Digital identification
- Domestic travel within Greece
Important Note: Official and diplomatic passports issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are not included in this service.
The passport becomes the 13th official document available in the popular digital wallet application, managed by the Ministry of Digital Governance.
How to Add Your Passport
- Download or update the Gov.gr Wallet app (available on Android and iOS).
- Install via wallet.gov.gr.
- Follow the instructions to securely add your valid ordinary passport.

Strong Adoption Numbers
The Gov.gr Wallet continues to grow rapidly, with:
- Over 2.5 million digital identity cards issued
- Nearly 2 million digital driving licences stored
Behind the Development
The new feature was developed by the General Secretariat for Information Systems and Digital Governance and GRNET, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Hellenic Police. Data verification is handled securely through the Interoperability Centre.
This latest addition strengthens the Gov.gr Wallet as Greece’s single, secure digital repository for essential personal documents, making everyday life and travel smoother for citizens.
