ATHENS – His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America held a cordial meeting with United States Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic Kimberly Guilfoyle in Athens on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
The two discussed a range of matters of mutual interest, including the Greek-American community, the international ministry of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and the strong, enduring bonds between Greece and the United States.
His Eminence also briefed the Ambassador on the outcomes of the recent 48th Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, held in Cleveland, Ohio, and provided an update on ongoing efforts toward the reopening of the Historical Theological School of Halki.
The meeting underscores the close ties between the Greek Orthodox Church in America and US diplomatic leadership in Greece, particularly in promoting religious freedom and cultural cooperation.
