British-Albanian pop star Dua Lipa has publicly voiced support for ongoing protests in Albania opposing a proposed €1.6 billion luxury resort backed by Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.
The singer praised demonstrators as “inspiring” and criticised the Albanian government over changes to environmental protections, arguing that the measures were introduced without adequate public consultation.
The controversial development has sparked widespread opposition from environmental groups and local activists, who say the planned resort would threaten protected coastal ecosystems and nature reserves.
Protesters have accused the government of prioritising commercial interests over environmental conservation, while calling for greater transparency in the approval process.
The Albanian government has defended the project, saying it will attract significant foreign investment, create jobs and boost tourism, describing it as an important opportunity for the country’s economic development.
The proposed development, supported by Kushner’s investment firm, has become one of Albania’s most contentious infrastructure and tourism projects, drawing international attention amid growing concerns over environmental protection and sustainable development.
