American Airlines has unveiled 13 new international nonstop routes for 2026, with Athens among the standout additions as the carrier continues to expand its global network.
The new service between Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Athens International Airport reinforces Greece’s growing popularity as a year-round destination for American travellers and strengthens transatlantic connectivity.
Operated by the airline’s Boeing 777 fleet, the route is one of several major European additions introduced this year, alongside new services to Zurich, Milan, Budapest, Prague and Edinburgh.
Athens joins expanding European network
Europe has been the primary focus of American Airlines’ latest international expansion.
New routes include:
- Dallas/Fort Worth – Athens
- Dallas/Fort Worth – Zurich
- Philadelphia – Budapest
- Philadelphia – Prague
- New York (JFK) – Edinburgh
- Miami – Milan
The airline says its Dallas/Fort Worth hub remains the cornerstone of its international operations, providing connections to hundreds of destinations across North America while serving as a key gateway to Europe.
The addition of Athens reflects the city’s continued rise as one of the Mediterranean’s most sought-after destinations, attracting increasing numbers of visitors from the United States each year.
Growth beyond Europe
American Airlines has also expanded its network across Latin America and Canada.
New routes include services from Miami to Caracas, Georgetown (Guyana), Paramaribo (Suriname) and Guatemala City, while seasonal flights have also been introduced between New York (JFK) and Quebec City.
Boost for Greece
The Dallas/Fort Worth–Athens route is expected to further strengthen tourism, business travel and ties between Greece and the United States.
The new connection provides travellers with convenient access to American Airlines’ extensive domestic network via Dallas/Fort Worth, one of the airline’s largest hubs, while offering American visitors another direct gateway to Greece.
The expansion comes as demand for travel to Greece continues to reach record levels, with airlines increasing capacity to meet strong interest from North American travellers.
