Football fans will have the opportunity to own a piece of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final after FIFA announced plans to sell sections of the match turf as limited-edition collectibles.
According to The Athletic, the world football governing body will offer four tiers of commemorative turf collected from the pitch used in the World Cup final, which is scheduled to take place on July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The collectibles will be available exclusively to customers in the United States and Europe, with FIFA reportedly expecting sales to generate more than US$11 million.
The premium package will retail for US$3,000 and will include a 3-by-3-inch section of the final’s grass, a gold-engraved replica match ticket, a miniature official World Cup match ball and a crystal World Cup trophy.
Three additional souvenir packages will be priced at US$450, US$900 and US$1,200 respectively. FIFA plans to limit production to no more than 2,026 units in each category, reflecting the tournament year.
The Athletic reported that the natural grass for the World Cup final was cultivated at a specialist turf farm in North Carolina before being installed at the venue.
To ensure consistency and playing quality throughout the tournament, organisers have installed natural grass pitches at every World Cup stadium, including venues that traditionally use artificial surfaces. These include stadiums in Seattle, Atlanta, East Rutherford, Vancouver, Arlington, Texas, and Inglewood, California.
FIFA has not announced what will happen to the turf from the other tournament venues once the competition concludes.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest in the tournament’s history, featuring 48 national teams, 104 matches and 16 stadiums across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
