Passengers on Athens’ metro Line 3 faced delays in services on Saturday morning after a train broke down at the station Monastiraki, in the latest incident involving service disruptions.
Shortly before 8 a.m., the train stopped at Monastiraki station and remained there for several minutes with the lights in the carriages flickering. At about 8.10 a.m., metro employees informed the passengers that the train was being evacuated and eventually withdrawn. There has been no official announcement about the causes of the incident.
This is the fourth incident recorded this week on the metro. On December 30, 2024, a train on Line 1 started emitting smoke at Moschato station. On New Year’s Day, all train doors on Line 1 of the suburban railway ISAP malfunctioned while in motion between Ano Patission and Perissos stations. On January 3, another train was withdrawn from Line 1 as one of its doors was not closing securely.
