Toxicology tests returned clear results for the infant who passed away under still-unexplained circumstances last August in the city of Amaliada in western Peloponnese, it was reported on Sunday.

According to sources, there has been verbal communication between prosecutors and the homicide department, which is awaiting formal requests from the prosecutors specifying the cases they wish to have investigated.

Currently, four infant deaths have attracted the attention of authorities.

In 2023 and 2024, two babies belonging to the same mother passed away. Afterwards, a third child, the baby of her housemate, also died. Most recently, in August 2024, a fourth infant, whom the woman had been babysitting, passed away as well.

A prosecutor in Patra had ordered in October an urgent preliminary investigation into the deaths of the first three infants in the western Peloponnese.

As reported by state broadcaster ERT, if the homicide department proceeds with the investigation, an expert team is expected to be appointed to examine previously gathered evidence.

This team would prepare a report to identify any commonalities or patterns in the causes of death across the cases.
