A 12-year-old boy was hospitalised in critical condition Thursday after a road accident with an e-scooter west of Athens, just days after the government announced plans to restrict minors’ use of the vehicles.
The boy suffered severe head injuries when his e-scooter collided with a car in the town of Aspropyrgos and was being treated in intensive care, state ERT broadcaster said. The precise circumstances of the crash were unclear.
Last month, a 13-year-old boy was fatally injured when his e-scooter collided with a car in the western Peloponnese. The accident triggered a broad debate on children’s use of e-scooters
It also prompted Citizen Protection Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis on Tuesday to announce plans to further regulate the use of e-scooters and restrict minors to using them in pedestrian zones and squares.
“A minor cannot and should not be riding a scooter on the road. It is very dangerous,” he said.
