Regional train link to Florina to revive this month

A regional train service between the towns of Florina and Edessa in northern Greece will be restored in the coming weeks after being suspended for more than three years, authorities said Tuesday.

The Infrastructure and Transport Ministry said in a statement that by the end of May two trains will run every day in either direction from Florina in western Macedonia to Platy on the main Athens-to-Thessaloniki line and back.

The single-rail track is 219 kilometers long and stops will include Amyntaio, Agras, Arnissa, Vegoritis, Vevi, Messonissi and Xino Nero. Trains will be able to reach a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour on some refurbished sections of the line, the ministry said.

It added that should there be sufficient interest from the public a third daily connection will be added.
