A man has been arrested in western Athens for illegally dumping a variety of broken furniture and other waste in an empty lot, police said.
A police statement said officers from a special unit against illegal waste disposal observed the 41-year-old suspect Tuesday driving through the capital’s Aigaleo suburb, stopping and dumping the rubbish.
He was arrested and charged with breaches of environmental protection and waste disposal laws.
Police have stepped up operations against fly-tipping in major Greek cities, announcing a series of arrests in recent months.
