ATHEX: Turnover at lowest level this year

Wednesday’s bourse session at Athinon Avenue confirmed that the local stock market has lost its momentum due to the war in the Middle East, and traders are not willing to take any risks now given the volatility of markets and the geopolitical uncertainty. Most indexes and stocks headed lower, and only mid-caps notched minor gains. The benchmark narrowly managed to sustain the 2,200-point level, while daily turnover dropped to its lowest point in 2026.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,200.69 points, shedding 0.11% from Tuesday’s 2,203.09 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index contracted 0.13%, ending at 5,578.33 points, though mid-caps expanded 0.10%.

The banks index conceded 0.23%, as Alpha fell 1.97%, Eurobank slid 0.13% and National slipped 0.07%, while Optima grew 0.67%, Bank of Cyprus advanced 0.60% and Piraeus collected 0.12%.

In total 48 stocks obtained gains, 58 showed losses and 16 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to €169.3 million, down from Tuesday’s €203.3 million.

In Nicosia, the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange decreased 0.27% to close at 284.32 points.
