Police arrest inmate, charge three others in Korydallos prison psychiatric ward operation

Police arrested one inmate and filed charges against three others following an operation Tuesday at the psychiatric ward inside Korydallos Prison, Greece’s largest penitentiary, authorities said.

The operation was carried out by the Organized Crime Division (DAOE), also known as the “Greek FBI,” with the support of other operational units.

Authorities said the arrested inmate was found in possession of mobile phones and a quantity of raw cannabis. Separate charges were filed against three additional prisoners for possession of mobile phones.

During the searches, officers inspected six cells and a total of 11 inmates. They seized 6 grams of cannabis in two improvised packages, nine mobile phones, 10 SIM cards and one memory card.

The arrested inmate was taken before a prosecutor in Piraeus, while case files against the others will be submitted to the competent authorities.
