Rhodes man gets 10 years for incest against daughter

A court on the Dodecanese island of Kos has jailed a 56-year-old man from Rhodes to ten years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty of multiple counts raping his daughter and committing incest.

As a result of the rape and incest, the daughter, now aged 31, gave birth to a child three-and-a-half years ago.

She told the court that the rapes started when she was 16, after her parents had divorced and she was then living at her grandmother’s house with her father.

Her father raped her daily for at least 12 years, mostly when he was under the influence of drugs, she told the court.

The rapes stopped, she said, when she became pregnant with her second child, who is now three-and-a-half years old.

A DNA test on the child revealed that her biological father was the father of the child.

The case emerged when the woman revealed the abuse to a friend, who encouraged her to report her father to the authorities.

In his defense, the father claimed that he had a consensual sexual relationship with his daughter for a few months, but that they both stopped when they released what they were doing was wrong.

Although the abuse commenced in 2010, the statute of limitations meant that the father was only prosecuted for criminal acts committed from February 2021 to January 2022.

Notably, the court also prosecuted the daughter on a charge of incest, sentencing her to a two-year prison sentence suspended for three years.
