Sunday marks Global Wine Tourism Day, a celebration encouraging wine enthusiasts to explore the diverse world of Greek wines. Organized annually on the second Sunday of November since 2009, this event has grown from a European tradition to a global one since 2019.
Greek wineries will open their doors to visitors, offering guided tours through vineyards, tastings of fresh and aged vintages, and regional delicacies.
The initiative highlights the rich winemaking heritage of Greece, featuring over 1,750 wineries, though only 100 are currently designated as visitor-ready.
Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni emphasized the government’s strategy to enhance wine tourism, with plans to create a national network of visitor-ready wineries. This aims to boost off-season tourism, combining wine production with hospitality and culinary experiences.
“We want travelers to connect deeply with our regions through unique wine experiences,” she noted, calling for more marketing efforts to promote Greek wine destinations worldwide.
