Attorney and leader of the Course of Freedom party Zoe Konstantopoulou and her father, veteran attorney Nikos Konstantopoulos, launched a fierce attack Wednesday against the justice minister, the head of the Union of Judges and Prosecutors, and the Athens Bar Association president over the trial for the Tempe tragedy, Greece’s deadliest rail disaster.

Konstantopoulou, a former parliament speaker, joined her father at a news conference at the Athens Bar Association alongside families of victims of the 2023 Tempe train crash, accusing authorities of orchestrating a systematic cover-up.

“They want to kill the victims’ memory and justice,” she said. “The primary culprit of the Tempe crime is the Mitsotakis government.”

Konstantopoulos announced plans to sue Christoforos Sevastidis, head of the Union of Judges and Prosecutors, for defamation, calling him a government “mouthpiece” coordinating with Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis.

“I will file a lawsuit, request his disciplinary referral, and turn to international monitoring bodies,” he said, adding that he had practiced law for 51 years and would not back down.

Konstantopoulou cited 21 violations of rule-of-law principles in the ongoing trial, including restrictions on public access and alleged police violence against a victim’s relative. The government has not responded to the allegations.
