Two men who posted on social media incriminating videos of themselves doing illegal motorbike stunts have been identified and face prosecution for reckless driving and incitement to crime, authorities said Wednesday.
A police statement said the men, aged 29 and 23, had uploaded footage of themselves doing wheelies – causing their bike to rise on its rear wheel while going fast – speeding and driving on the wrong side of the road. The videos were shot on the island of Rhodes, Nafplio in the Peloponnese and the Greater Athens region.
The investigation was carried out by a specialized police unit that monitors social media for videos posted by users of illegal road stunts. Their work has resulted in a string of prosecutions.
Police said the 29-year-old suspect lacked a motorcycle driver’s license. Both face charges of incitement for allegedly encouraging viewers to imitate their driving style. The motorcycles were impounded.
