A shooting incident in the town of Markopoulo in East Attica Friday evening is suspected to have been in retaliation for the November killing of a 5-year-old in the same area, police said Saturday.
Two women, 31 and 35, were injured in the incident, which took place around 7 p.m. They sustained injuries to their arms and legs and were taken to hospital, authorities said.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as suspects, reportedly from the same community as the deceased child, fired from three vehicles outside a workshop.
Authorities believe the violence stems from a drug-related dispute between the two rival groups.
One individual has been arrested, identified by the injured women as a suspect. Investigations were ongoing to locate other perpetrators involved in the shooting, according to police.
This follows the fatal shooting of a 5-year-old boy in early November, a case that continues to cast a shadow over the area.
Police remain on high alert as tensions among local communities escalate.
