A 19-year-old man appeared before a single-member misdemeanor court in Thessaloniki after being arrested for vandalizing the Venizelos station of the northern port city’s newly inaugurated metro system.
He is charged with property damage involving an asset designated for public benefit. The trial has been postponed, and the suspect was released.
According to a police statement, the arrest took place early Sunday morning. Officers apprehended the suspect, who had concealed his identity while spray-painting letters on the station’s walls and glass panels. Two spray paint cans were found in his possession and subsequently confiscated.
This is the first arrest related to vandalism of the Thessaloniki metro since its inauguration on November 30.
